The Creative Process
Leeny has a full-time job working as an attorney on complicated transactions involving billions of dollars in investments in renewable energy projects. She reads (and writes) the “fine print”. She balances her life creating incredible abstract art. Her inspiration can come from a dream, a picture in her head, or by just putting paint and other media to canvas.
About the Media
Paints
Most paints are acrylic, with the exception of some auto or similar oil paints. These can be simple single colors, or contain other ingredients such as sparkles.
Foils
Foils are often used in combination with any of the media discussed above, or may be the predominant media in a given piece.
Glitters, Beads, & Fire Rock
Larger glass or similar objects are often labeled as “fire rock.”
- Sparkles: Glitter, small metallic flakes, micas and the like are categorized as “Sparkles”.
- Beads: Larger media with a similar effect such as small glass beads, chromed balls and the like are described as “beads”.
- Fire Rock: Larger glass or similar objects are often labelled as “fire rock.”
Textures
Rather than just putting paint on canvas, Leeny often creates a textured background on which to create. This can take a wide variety of forms, including the use of shaped smooth chips, wrinkled foils, plastic wrap and the like.
- Copper sheet may be used in a raw manner, or as contour for other media.
Clearcoat
Any particular mix of media can and often is finished with a “Clearcoat”, for instance “Resin” (aka clear epoxy) or simply a clear gloss coat of spray paint, that both brightens the work and protects it.
